In a snapshot of his keynote address, Guillemot will be focusing on the $3 billion mobile games business. He will examine ways to push the current barriers that the mobile industry faces in technology, distribution and design. Translating his experience from the console realm, Guillemot will address what it takes to shift mobile games into a mass market business using the global landscape as a backdrop. Biography: Michel Guillemot is a key player of the video game industry in Europe and North America. Michel’s experience spans over 20 years in the video game industry. Before setting foot in the mobile platform, he and his four brothers ran a small family business on the coast of Brittany, France. During a trip to London, Michel recognized the potential of video games. He noticed that games cost half of what they did in France. The five Guillemot brothers shifted gears and embarked on the creation of Ubisoft Entertainment Inc. The brothers enjoyed a great deal of success developing games for console and PC. Michel co-founded Ubisoft Entertainment in 1986, now a leading developer and publisher of video games. He was at the core of Ubisoft’s creation and development studios which account for more than 3,200 developers today and are fully recognized worldwide for the creativity and quality of their games. In 2000, Michel created Ludigames, a company specializing in developing and publishing mobile games. Later that year, he merged it with Gameloft.com to become president and CEO of the Gameloft Group. Michel opened the first Gameloft offices in Paris, France. With the success of the Paris studio, he expanded the business to other European countries. Gameloft is ranked as the number one mobile gaming company in Europe and is one of the top two mobile game companies in the U.S. With the North American headquarters in New York, Gameloft is the only independent, pure player in the mobile space. The company currently employs 3,800 employees worldwide and has remained profitable since 2003. In 2005, Michel was selected as one of the top mobile content executives in the mobile industry by Mobile Entertainment Magazine. In 2006, Gameloft was featured in BusinessWeek as the number one hot growth company in Europe by Europe’s 500- Entrepreneurs of Growth, and again in 2007 as one of the top five growing companies.
