The 2014 Game Developers Conference Europe kicks off next week, so we're taking a moment to highlight some of the events and guidelines you'll want to know about before you get to the show.
Advance online registration for next week's conference has now closed, but you can still register onsite at the registration desks in the Congress-Centrum Ost Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. The registration area is open for varying lengths of time from Sunday through Wednesday, March 10-13, and you can find the exact hours on the GDC Europe 2014 Registration page.
Today we're showcasing a handful of GDC Europe 2014 events that attendees should make sure not to miss while they're running around the show. In addition, we're going to take a minute to run down the details of our GDC Europe Code of Conduct.
Happy Hour
This year we invite you to join us in toasting yet another successful event at the GDC Europe Happy Hour. The event will take place on Tuesday, August 12 from 5-7 PM at Booth #159 on the Expo Floor and is open to all badge-bearing attendees.
Respawn Developer Party
GDC Europe and the organizers of Respawn will team up on the evening of August 12 to host the 'GDC Europe and Respawn Developer Night' party at the Bootshaus nightclub in Cologne, Germany. The party starts after the show at 8:30 PM on Tuesday, August 12th, and it promises to be a night of fun, drinks and dancing. All GDC Europe pass holders are welcome to come, but please make sure to have your badge for entry.
Know the Code of Conduct
In order to ensure that GDC Europe continues to be a safe and enjoyable experience, we urge all attendees to review our official Code of Conduct and notify event personnel if you witness a breach of these expectations. To wit:
1. Purpose
GDC believes our community should be truly open for everyone. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, or religion.
This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behavior as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.
We invite all sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, media, exhibitors and other participants to help us realize a safe and positive conference experience for everyone.
2. Expected Behavior
- Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory or harassing behavior and speech.
- Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert conference organizers if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.
3. Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning conduct by any attendees of GDC Europe and related events. Many GDC Europe venues are shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations.
Harassment includes: offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
4. Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated whether by other attendees, media, speakers, volunteers, organizers, venue staff, sponsors, or exhibitors
Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the conference without warning or refund.
5. What to Do If You Witness or Are Subject to Unacceptable Behavior
If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a conference organizer as soon as possible. All reports will remain completely confidential.
The GDC team will be available to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, to provide escorts, or to otherwise assist those experiencing unacceptable behavior to feel safe for the duration of the conference. You can report unacceptable behavior to any member of staff. Staff can be found in the Show Office onsite or you may email one of the contacts below.
6. Scope
We expect all conference participants (sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other guests) to abide by this code of conduct at all conference venues and conference-related social events.
Furthermore, we encourage attendees to plan their schedule and look through the 80-plus available GDC Europe 2014 sessions using the online schedule builder, and they can also browse the list of exhibitors appearing on the GDC Europe Expo Floor using the current floor plan. We also want to remind all attendees that a mobile scheduler and attendee directory app is available for iOS, Android, and HTML5 compatible devices.
