Bosslady Blog: Be Seeing You

In her final GDC Bosslady blog, our long-time general manager Meggan Scavio makes an announcement around, well, why this is her final GDC Bosslady blog.

My first Game Developers Conference was in 2000. We were in the San Jose Convention Center and I was in operations/logistics. The operations team assigns most first-timers to the role of Conference Associate liaison. So my introduction to GDC was via a group that was more family than volunteer. And I was hooked.

Over the years, I’ve held different roles within GDC but none as fulfilling as general manager. Having the opportunity to lead an incredible team and guide an event that’s wholly community-focused has been fun and challenging and rewarding and complicated. Which is why it’s so hard to say goodbye.

Learn about overcoming the design challenges of developing VR experiences at VRDC Fall 2017!

Organizers of the Virtual Reality Developers Conference are excited to highlight two intriguing sessions for VRDC Fall 2017, which is happening September 21-22 at a bigger, better venue in San Francisco!

First up is a talk on the VRDC Fall 2017 Innovation track  which discusses how modern neuroscience can provide key insights for VR, and covers three areas that present challenges and opportunities for VR developers.

In his talk “A Game Designers Overview of the Neuroscience of VR,” President of The Inspiracy (and most recently Chief Game Designer at Google) Noah Falstein will look at the basic neuroscience of Immersion, Motion, and Emotion and provide context from a designer’s view of the science necessary for effective use of VR.

We’re excited to welcome Mike Booth, who currently works on social VR at Facebook and has a long career in games (founding Turtle Rock Studios and working at companies like Valve, Electronic Arts and Blizzard), to deliver a cutting-edge talk on what it takes to build an immersive social experience in VR.

Booth’s talk, “Creating Social Experiences in VR”, will be part of VRDC Fall 2017’s Innovation track of talks, which are all about how pioneers are breaking new ground in VR, AR, and mixed-reality experience design. Booth now leads a team of people who are exploring and building the future of social interation in VR, and his talk will be packed with their lessons learned.

VRDC Fall is happening this September, and the call for talks is open!

Great news, VR fans: Organizers of the Virtual Reality Developers Conference, the premier event for creators of immersive VR (and AR) experiences, are excited to announce that VRDC Fall will be taking place this September in San Francisco — and now is the time to submit your pitches for talks!

The call for submissions to present at VRDC Fall 2017 will remain open through Friday, April 21 at 11:59 PT. That’s roughly a month away!

VRDC Fall 2017 will take place September 21-22 in San Francisco, CA at the Hilton Union Square. This will be the second standalone VRDC, following the strikingly successful debut of VRDC as a sibling conference to GDC 2016 and its evolution into a standalone show.

The two-day event will bring together VR/AR experts from multiple industries to share best practices, demo new technology, create new business partnerships, and exchange ideas with innovators shaping the industry.
