GDC Europe 2014 adds standout talks by Monument Valley, Luftrausers devs

Following announcements of talks from Ninja Theory and Paradox last week, GDC Europe organizers are debuting two more notable sessions for the major European video game conference, which is being held in Germany this August.
In these freshly announced talks, Ustwo's Ken Wong will speak about the design of Monument Valley, while Vlambeer co-founder Rami Ismail (Ridiculous Fishing) will offer advice on how developers can better pitch their games to the press and their intended audience.

Organized by UBM Tech Game Network, the event, now in its sixth year, will run Monday through Wednesday, August 11-13 at the Congress-Centrum Ost in Cologne, Germany, co-located with Europe's biggest video game trade and public show Gamescom.

GDC Next 2014 debuts call for talks, reveals themes

UBM Tech is announcing a call to present lectures, roundtables and panels at the 2nd annual Game Developers Conference Next as well as the featured App Developers Conference.
GDC Next and ADC, which aim to highlight practical ways for developers to increase the creative and financial success of their projects, are taking place simultaneously on November 3rd-4th, 2014 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Submissions for presentations will be accepted from now through Friday, May 30th.

The industry is gearing up for GDC Europe, and show organizers announced today that more industry veterans have joined the event's advisory board to help program the lectures, panels and roundtable sessions taking place at this year's conference in Cologne, Germany, alongside the Gamescom trade fair.
The GDC Europe advisory board, which includes game industry notables like Mojang's Daniel Kaplan, CD Projekt Red's Bartlomiej Gawel, DICE creative director Lars Gustavsson, and Rocksteady Studios' David Hego, is very excited to welcome three new members: Rovio's Katharina Hautz, Prof. Dr. Linda Breitlauch, and Scattered Entertainment's Senta Jakobsen.

The Independent Games Festival China - which will take place this October alongside GDC China in Shanghai - has opened its call for submissions and is accepting indie game entries from the pan-Pacific area from now through July 25.
GDC China will once again host all three main elements of IGF China, including the Independent Games Summit, the IGF Pavilion, and the prestigious IGF China Awards.
Now in its sixth year, the IGF Summit at GDC China will feature sessions from some of the world's top developers, while the IGF Pavilion will showcase some of the region's best independent and student games.

GDC China 2014 announced for Oct 19-21st: call for talks now open

The call for Mandarin and English submissions to present talks for the 2014 Game Developers Conference China is now open until May 15.
Organized by UBM Tech Game Network, the 7th annual GDC China will move up to October this year, running the 19th to the 21st at the Shanghai International Convention Center in Shanghai, China.
Submissions will be accepted until May 15th for papers on Game Design, Production, Business & Marketing, Smartphone & Tablet Games, and Independent Games.

Organized by UBM Tech Game Network, the event, now in its sixth year, will run Monday through Wednesday, August 11-13 at the Cologne Congress-Centrum Ost in Cologne, Germany. The window for submissions will remain open through Monday, April 21.
Co-located with the European gamescom trade fair, GDC Europe 2014 will continue to provide the essential pan-European perspective of game development and highlight business trends throughout the continent.

GDC hits attendance record, 2015 dates announced

UBM Tech Game Network's 2014 Game Developers Conference, the world's largest and longest-running event serving professionals dedicated to the art and science of making games, has set a record for event attendance, with more than 24,000 industry professionals at last week's conference in San Francisco's Moscone Center. After another year's successful event, show organizers have announced that GDC 2015 will return to the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco from Monday, March 2 to Friday, March 6, 2015, with the call for submissions to open this summer.
This year's conference touched on the past, present and future of the games industry, hosting a series of classic game postmortems, sessions related to social advocacy and the current state of race/gender/sexuality representation in games, and playing host to new hardware and software innovations to be seen in the months and years ahead.

The Last Of Us wins top honors at Game Developers Choice Awards

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us was awarded Game of the Year during the 14th annual Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony, which took place this evening during the 2014 Game Developers Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The game was also honored with Best Design and Best Narrative Awards during the event, which was emcee'd by inimitable industry veteran Abbie Heppe.
Irrational Games' BioShock Infinite netted awards for Best Audio and Best Visual Art.
Lucas Pope's Papers, Please won the Innovation Award and the honor for Best Downloadable Game in recognition of Pope's compelling gameplay design.

Papers, Please takes the grand prize at 16th annual IGF Awards

Lucas Pope's Papers, Please won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize for Best Independent Game and its accompanying $30,000 cash prize this evening at the 16th Annual Independent Games Festival, which took place this evening as part of the 2014 Game Developers Conference at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.
Pope's inventive and evocative game, centered around the protocols and moral challenges of working as an immigration agent under a dictatorial regime, was also honored for its achievements in Narrative and Design during the event.
Capybara Games co-founder and all-around charming fellow Nathan Vella served as master of ceremonies for the event, which featured appearances from IGF chairman Brandon Boyer and videos from the comedic minds behind the Hey Ash Whatcha Playin'? video series.
