One of GDC's most acclaimed interactive spaces, alt.ctrl.GDC - an on-site showcase of alternative control schemes and interactions in games - returns for a fourth year in 2017.
Co-helmed by veteran indie curator John Polson, the alt.ctrl.GDC exhibit will take place from March 1-3, 2017 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on the GDC Expo Floor. If you'd like a flavor of the previous year's showcases, check out this Engadget video from GDC 2016, or this WIRED gallery from 2015.
Key dates for alt.ctrl.GDC are listed below. You can submit to alt.ctrl.GDC 2017 here. Any questions can be directed toward John Polson.
In addition, we're delighted to announce that this is the first year of the alt.ctrl.GDC Award, which will be given out at the 2017 Independent Games Festival Ceremony - held on March 1, 2017 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
This award will be given to the most engaging, intriguing, and well-executed game using unconventional, accessible or alternative physical controls which is entered into the alt.ctrl.GDC showcase - taking place alongside the IGF at GDC.
(Please note, if you submit to the IGF you must also submit separately to alt.ctrl.GDC to be considered for the alt.ctrl.GDC Award – the finalists and winner for this award will be selected from the participants of the alt.ctrl.GDC showcase, so please enter via that method.)
