Here are three sessions we're thrilled to announce will be at GDC 2024.

Customizing a Billion Lightsabers: 'STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor' UX WorkbenchSTAR WARS Jedi: Survivor's lightsaber workbench mechanic is widely praised both for its depth and ease-of-use, despite being deceptively complex, serving hundreds of colors and parts, and even brand-new-to-canon categories. This talk from the game's UI/UX Lead recounts the journey of the 10 different interface iterations it took, where to improve as a sequel, key trade-offs and core findings, all backed by player research and testing.

Everything is Connected: Ambient Sound in 'Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora': Creating the sound for a game in the Avatar universe presented the audio team at Ubisoft Massive with a unique opportunity. Contrary to most AAA games, the star of the show is the world in which the game is set, Pandora. To make this experience believable, Pandora needs to have unprecedented fidelity, and feel like everything is connected. This presentation outlines the creative strategies devised to achieve these goals.

The Dark Place of 'Alan Wake II': Crafting an Evolving Nightmare Dimension: The presentation is a dive into the world-building aspect of The Dark Place of Alan Wake II, explaining how the team approached the environment world-building and what tools were used to create an evolving nightmare dimension where the world is shifting, and multiple layers of reality are interconnected in a dream logic structure where the reality is subjective.

Over the coming months, we'll be highlighting many of the talks taking place at GDC 2024—including cultivated selections based on disciplines, career goals, emergent technologies, social spaces, and more. For those attending GDC for the first time, stay tuned for special recommendations for sessions, networking opportunities, and events that will help you make the most of your GDC debut.
