Get community management tips from MMO experts at GDC 2015

Game Developers Conference officials have added a new Community Management Summit to the GDC 2015 lineup that will better address the needs of contemporary game developers, and today they're excited to debut a cutting-edge talk on the topic.

Games have traditionally been used for entertainment and fantasy play outside the realities of the real world. But as real-world culture issues arise within our game communities, our traditional management techniques and policies may not be up to that challenge.

With that in mind, three veterans of online communities will discuss not only what has both worked and failed in existing communities, but also discuss what else could and should be tried to protect the fun games can provide without losing player passion.

Raph Koster, Richard Vogel and Gordon Walton have all worked on multiple online games (Star Wars Galaxies [pictured], Ultima OnlineThe Old Republic) and during their talk, "Managing Game Communities Within the Culture Wars", they'll share concrete community management practices for dealing with audiences of varying passion and commitment levels that you can immediately apply to your own projects.

Full details on this session and many others can be perused on the list of all announced talks available now in the online GDC 2015 Session Scheduler, where you can begin to plan out your conference week and later export it to the up-to-the-minute GDC Mobile App, coming soon.

Conference officials look forward to announcing many more GDC 2015 sessions spanning a diverse array of game industry issues in the months ahead.

GDC 2015 itself will take place March 2-6 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. For more information on GDC 2015, visit the show's official website, or subscribe to regular updates via FacebookTwitter, or RSS.
